The Botanical Stars

Rosa Damascena Flower Water: The Soothing Hydrosol

Organic rose water is the hydrosol made by steam-distilling Damask rose petals. It adds hydration, a calming feel and mild antioxidant activity, and works as a caring base in the cleanser rather than as fragrance alone. Read more in our guide to rose water in skincare.

Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract: Calming for Reactive Skin

Chamomile extract brings alpha-bisabolol and flavonoids such as apigenin, two of the best-studied soothing compounds in botanical skincare. They help calm reactive skin and reduce the look of redness that can appear when sensitive skin meets water and cleansing. Read more in our guide to chamomile for redness.

Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract: Conditioning Flavonoids

Calendula extract adds plant flavonoids that condition the skin and support its comfort. Together with chamomile, it forms a gentle botanical pair that helps stressed skin feel calm after cleansing.

Gentle cleansing without compromise: SKINØ Cleansing Foam lifts away dirt and make-up while helping the skin keep its moisture.

Base, Humectant and pH Adjuster

Aqua: The Water Base

Purified water is the first ingredient and makes up the base of the formula, together with organic rose water. It dissolves the water-soluble ingredients and gives the foam its light texture.

Glycerin: The Skin-Identical Humectant

Glycerin is a natural part of the skin's own moisture system. In a cleanser, it helps the skin hold on to water while the surfactants do their work. That is the main reason the skin stays soft and supple after rinsing, without the classic tight feeling.

Lactic Acid: pH Balance

Lactic acid adjusts and stabilises the formula's pH to around 4.7–5.1, close to the skin's natural acid mantle. It is also a natural humectant, which adds to the soft skin feel after cleansing.

Cleansing Base and Mild Emulsifiers

Cocamidopropyl Betaine: The Mild Surfactant

An amphoteric, coconut-derived surfactant that creates a rich, creamy foam. It is much gentler than sulfates such as SLS, cleansing effectively with less risk of stripping the skin's lipids or drying it out. It is also readily biodegradable.

Sucrose Cocoate: Gentle Emulsifying

A sugar-based emulsifier made from coconut oil and sucrose. It has a softening, re-fatting effect that gives the foam its silky texture and a comfortable skin feel.

A Gentle Preservative System for Certified Skincare

Any water-based formula needs reliable protection against microbial growth. SKINØ Cleansing Foam uses a multi-component system permitted under the COSMOS standard and compliant with the EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009:

  • Sodium Levulinate and Sodium Anisate: a pair of plant-derived salts that help protect the formula against bacteria and other microbes.
  • Benzyl Alcohol: a preservative and solvent, used within the EU limit of 1%. It is not the same as denatured alcohol (Alcohol Denat.).
  • Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate: well-established, food-grade preservative salts that protect against mould and yeast.

Together they keep the product stable and safe to use, without harsh, barrier-disrupting preservatives.

Parfum: A Low, Minimal Dose

Parfum is listed near the end of the INCI list, which means it is used at a low level. It gives a light sensory experience without dominating the formula.

Why the Formula Is Vegan, Free From Drying Alcohols and Barrier-Friendly

  • Free from drying alcohols: the product contains no simple, drying alcohols such as Alcohol Denat. or ethanol. The small amount of Benzyl Alcohol is there only as a preservative and solvent.
  • 100% vegan: none of the 14 ingredients are of animal origin.
  • Skin-friendly pH: the mildly acidic pH (4.7–5.1) is close to the skin's natural acid mantle, which supports a balanced skin surface.

Clean Skincare With Full Transparency

No fillers and nothing that is not on the INCI list. Every ingredient in SKINØ Cleansing Foam has a specific job, from cleansing to antioxidant protection and barrier-friendly care.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Ingredients in SKINØ Cleansing Foam

What does the asterisk (*) in the ingredient list mean?

The asterisk marks ingredients from certified organic farming. In this formula, that applies to Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract and Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract.

Does the product contain common allergens?

The INCI list declares no individual fragrance allergens such as linalool, limonene or geraniol. Benzyl Alcohol, which is on the EU list of fragrance allergens, is used here as a preservative within EU limits. If you have very sensitive skin or known allergies, do a patch test on the inside of your forearm 24–48 hours before first use.

Is the fragrance in the formula a problem for sensitive skin?

Parfum is used at a low, minimal level to give a pleasant feel without overloading the skin. Combined with soothing rose water and chamomile, the formula suits most sensitive and reactive skin types. As with any new product, a patch test is a good first step.
